FAQs

Q. What if a player that I have placed a bet on for first try scorer does not take the field of play?
A. We’ll refund your first try scorer bet.

Q. What if a tennis player pulls out of a match because of injury?
A. Bets placed on Tennis matches will now stand if a player retires or withdraws from a match any time after the first ball has been played. See Rule 15.27 (a) of the TAB Betting Rules for more details.

Q. Why is there a reduction when taking the same horse multiple times in a Multi?
A. Selecting the same horse in a Multi is technically a related outcome. There is a reduction in the second race taken which reflects what the odds will be like if the selected horse was to win the first race.

Q. In American sports such as Baseball extra innings may be played to determine the outcome, when is the result declared?
A. The result is declared at the end of the match, with overtime included.

Q. If a cricket test match is rained out without a ball being bowled do I get my money back?
A. Absolutely. In a one-day match if the match is shortened by weather then the winner is declared by the sporting body and is paid out on by the TAB. If the officials declare a ‘no result’ on a one-day match then all bets are refunded except those options that were already decided e.g. most runs in the first 15 overs.

Q. What happens if there is a protest after the winner of an event has been declared and subsequently the winner is disqualified?
A. We pay out on the official result as declared at the close of an event. That is, on either the result at the end of play or the podium positions for certain sports. Any subsequent overturned decision will not be recognised by the TAB.

Q. If there is extra time played in a match will it affect my result?
A. Rugby League, Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockley and American Football all include extra time, unless otherwise stated. Rugby Union and Soccer are paid at the end of normal time, unless otherwise stated.

Q. What happens in Fixed Odds betting on Motor racing if a winner is disqualified after the race finishes?
A. The TAB pays out on a podium finish in Motor Racing or other sports like Athletics or Cycling. Podium winner is the winner who is presented with first after the race has been completed. Any subsequent alteration to the placing for any reason technical or otherwise is not recognised by the TAB.

Head to Head

The team or player you think will win the game.

Winning team and Margin

After making a call on who you think will win, you pick what margin they will win by e.g. Hurricanes by 13 and over.

Half/Fulltime double

The team you think will be leading at half time, as well as the match winner. Chances are you’ll get much better value on a favourite for minimal extra risk.

Points Start

It’s kind of like racing a young kid – to make the contest a little more even you have to give the outsider a head start, right? This is how the Points Start bet works. To make a bet more attractive the outsider is given a ‘points start’ which the favourite has to beat in order to win. An example is, in a past Hurricanes vs. Chiefs match the Chiefs were given a ‘head start’ of +9.5 points. The half point is to ensure a unique winner. If the Hurricanes won 10-0, the Hurricanes -9.5 points would be the winner. If the Hurricanes won 9-0, Chiefs +9.5 points would be the winner. In the actual game the Hurricanes won 35-10, so Hurricanes -9.5 was the winner.

Rugby / Soccer Pools

This bet has the potential to turn little bets into big returns – and it couldn’t be easier to have a chance at winning. Simply pick the winning team and margin in ten nominated rugby or soccer games. Or if you’re strapped for time, or just a little lazy, you can let the computer do it for you by simply asking for an Easybet.

Pick the Score

If you can correctly predict the final score you’ll win the Pick the Score dividend. Just like a Double in racing, you can take a number of selections for BOTH teams.

Multi-betting

A Multi bet allows you to place several Fixed Odds Racing and Sports options in one bet. The more options you include, the more you stand to win. The beauty of a Multi is that you can take a minimum of two, and a maximum of ten games on any Fixed Odds Racing and Sports options the TAB offers (minimum bet $5). You can place a Multi through a TAB Store, Phone Bet, Touchtone or online at tab.co.nz.

Live betting

Live betting is a great way to get involved in live sport as it offers you the benefit of being able to place a bet based on the matches’ current position, in real time.
